UNCW HawkLine Percussion Ensemble

During his freshman year, Kennith Watts, Jr. worked with the Pep Band Government, UNCW Athletics, the UNCW Music Department, and his peers to get a drumline started at UNCW. The idea and sole purpose was to increase the size of the Pep Band and to also help out Music Education majors that knew they would have to have marching ensemble techniques for future jobs, but no backbone of education throughout the music program for that genre. After joining the Pep Band Leadership Council as a Historian during his sophomore year, and President his junior year, he decided to push the idea even further. Close friend and Vice President, Ryan Roberts helped Kennith to start into the development of this ensemble with the goal of getting it off the ground and started by they time they graduated from UNCW. Through research, funding strategies, and tons of hardwork through gaining connections and recruiting, the line was almost drawn. In their senior year, they returned for a second term of office in the Pep Band Leadership Council. This year, they also gained Jacob Englehart (Treasurer), Kari Avolis (Secretary of Communications), Bridgid Mckenna (Librarian), and Erica Wright (Secretary of Attendance and History) as the Pep Band Leadership Council. This Council fought to modernize the current Pep Band, and also to create an additional unit called the HawkLine Percussion Ensemble. After many negotiations took place, the HawkLine was born on September 30th, 2009.
