-Documentary on October 12th is going to be in LH 108
-Tabling next week
-Women's Resource Center event on October 14th in Masonboro Island room FSU at 12PM
-November 3rd 7PM-9PM Tabling at Asian Hip Hop Summit Tour in Burney Center
-Dr. Das wants to get Mario Bencastro to speak in early February, wants to know if Amnesty will co-sponsor the event
Things to do:
-Make a facebook event for the Somalian Famine Benefit Concert
-Members need to research Tiny Hands organization, Somalian famine, and child soldiers for tabling next week
-Still planning fundraiser event for Invisible Children

Urgent Action / Current Events:
-Troy Davis execution delayed!
(Update: Troy Davis was executed in the state of Georgia at 11PM on September 21st after the Supreme Court denied his stay of execution. AIUNCW members and Catholic Campus Ministry members held a vigil for Davis before his execution.)
-Lawrence Brewer was also executed on September 21st in Texas. He admitted to attacking the victim, James Byrd, and gave an interview shortly before his execution saying he didn't regret anything.
-End abductions in Pakistan
- 93 people killed since last October
- Several members signed a petition online at amnesty.org
-NC Constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage in North Carolina to go on the ballot this May
Upcoming Events:
UNCW Mini-Goes Global events from October 12th - 14th
-3 tables in the amphitheater from 10AM - 2PM
-Each table will have information on a single human rights topic
- Human trafficking
- Somalian famine relief
- School of the Americas
Screening of On the Line, followed by a School of the Americas discussion
-Public and International Affairs Dept. is very interesting in helping us have a School of the Americas discussion
-As of right now the event is scheduled to take place on October 12th from 5:00-6:30, location TBA
-Public and International Affairs Dept. also showed an interest in having RHA put flyers in the dorms to advertize the event
Somalian Relief Concert
-Date is yet to be confirmed, but will hopefully be on October 15th at the Soap Box
-We'll likely ask for a $5 entrance fee from anyone under 21 and $3 from anyone over 21, or a donation of canned food goods or clothing
-Proceeds from the event will go to UNICEF who are on the ground now trying to help with the relief efforts in the horn of Africa
-Donations of food or clothing will likely be given to a local charity
-We are still looking for opening acts to play at the concert
-Jenny is going to ask her co-workers if they would like to play at the event
Up Til Dawn
-St. Jude's all night fundraiser
-Everyone sits in Burney Center and addresses letters to friends and family asking for donations to St. Jude's
-There is an interest meeting this Monday, September 26th in the Azalea Coast, FSU from 6:00-6:30
-The actual event will take place sometime in January
-September 26th is also Chili's night. Proceeds from the restaurant will being going to St. Jude's
Invisible Children
-Interest in UNCW Amnesty International joining the Frontline Campaign
-The Frontline Campaign sets up radio towers so villages can send warnings of rebel attacks
-Participants need to set up a personal fundraising page on invisiblechildren.com, then join a team
-The fundraising ends on December 14th
-Members brainstormed ways to earn money for the campaign including having a walk at Hugh McRae Park and having a raffle
Dr. Scatton-Tessier has received a $70,000 grant and wants to partner with Amnesty to do an event!

Invisible Children screening in Lumina on September 20th at 7PM
-Amnesty International is co-sponsoring the event
-There will be a guest speaker from Uganda
-Set-up at 6PM, showing at 7PM
-Orgs participating have been invited to a get together in Hawk's Nest beforehand at 5PM
Zeitoun (UNCW's summer reading) event
-Would Amnesty International be interested in co-sponsoring that event?

School of the Americas Protest
-Overview of protest
-We're sending in the paperwork soon for travel funding
Pride event on September 12th from 6-9PM at the Clocktower
-Pride is having a vigil to protest the proposed amendment to the NC constitution that would ban gay marriage in North Carolina
Members agree to reactivate the UNCW Amnesty International facebook page
-Current officers will need to be added as administrators of the facebook group
Possible upcoming event ideas:
-Child labor laws
-Human-trafficking, sex slaves
-Immigration
-Falling Whistles - child soldiers
-School of the Americas
-A carnival that includes these various issues
-Ask other groups to co-sponsor the event(s), like a mini-UNCW Goes Global

- Members plan to send letters to Egyptian student Karim Amer who was imprisoned in 2007 for saying negative things about President Mubarak on his blog. Members also plan to e-mail President Mubarak about Karim’s release.
