UNCW's program offers a Master’s Degree in English, which includes courses that allow graduate students to individually specialize in a number of areas, such as:
- Literature
- Poetry/Drama
- Cultural Studies
- Rhetoric & Composition
- New Media & Technology
- Professional Writing
- Linguistics
The Watson School of Education offers a separate degree for those seeking to teach in primary school, found here: Master’s Degree in Teaching English (MAT)

A select number of applicants each year are granted paid teaching assistantships, as well as a tutorial award at the writing center. Other positions may be available on campus as well. More information can be found on the English Department website or by talking to the faculty advisor.
