Membership Information

Many are called, but only the exceptional are chosen.  We are seeking to extend our sisterhood to leaders who are academically talented and who are interested in making a positive impact on the community in the company of diverse, intelligent, distinguished women.  We are open to ALL women.  We don’t discriminate.  Contact the chapter at uncw_sgrho@yahoo.com.  Please leave us your Name, Email, Phone Number, Age, Classification and a Brief Message.

Membership into Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington is limited to honorable, dedicated, principled women who have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or better.  You must have at least 12 semester hours and some community service hours under your belt even if it’s just one hour.

Continuous membership in any sorority is a lifetime commitment to sisterhood, scholarship, and service, as well as long-term financial commitment.  We expect prospective members to have a sense of self identity and confidence, as well as the ability to be a trendsetter.  Do you have what it takes?  We have a few recommendations for women considering membership in a sorority:

• DO YOUR RESEARCH on the characteristics and history of the NPHC sororities, especially the one you are interested in.  Assess your reasons for wanting to be in a sorority, and keep an open mind.  It may help you to decide which one is right for you.
   
• GET TO KNOW THE MEMBERS who are in the sorority and allow them the chance to get to know you by attending their events and being attentive to their actions on campus.  Make sure that these are women that you want to associate with because joining a sorority is a permanent allegiance.
   
• PLAN AHEAD ACADEMICALLY & FINANCIALLY.  All sororities were founded on community service; this means a lot of hard work, dedication as well as dues and other miscellaneous costs. Make sure your time management skills are up to the test, because your first priority at school is to graduate and nothing should stand in its way.
   
• EXERCISE STRICT DISCRETION.  Let the members of the organization know you are interested NOT the entire campus. Members need to also know that you will keep internal business internal, not external.  Also sincerity, honesty, and respect for the organization are also important when talking with members.
   
• REMEMBER HAZING IS ILLEGAL.* No member of any Greek lettered organization has the right to subject you to anything you will not allow, i.e. violations of your personal integrity/spirituality.  You have the right to walk away from a threatening situation and report it. *Sigma Gamma Rho is a NON-HAZING organization.  We adhere and recognize the hazing laws of our state and our organization.
