Provisos
- The President of the Student Body, hereinafter referred to as Student Body President, shall be elected from currently enrolled UNCW Students.
- The office of Student Body President shall be a twelve-month position, starting at the end of the spring semester in which they were elected.
- Not adhering to any of the requirements or duties listed in this section of the Constitution shall be considered dereliction of duty and will result in punitive action and may result in impeachment.
- No person shall serve as Student Body President more than two full terms.
Requirements
- Shall have completed one semester as a full-time UNCW student, and must have a current and cumulative grade point average no lower than 2.5.
- Shall receive a monthly stipend of $400.
Duties
- Shall present a State of the University Address at the first legislative session of each academic year.
- Shall serve as a nonvoting ex-officio member of all standing executive committees.
- Shall attend all UNCW Board of Trustees meetings and present quarterly reports on the state of the SGA to the Board of Trustees.
- Shall conduct all SGA Planning Board meetings.
- Shall attend monthly meetings of the Association of Student Governments (ASG) and report to the Legislature on their activities. If the President cannot attend, he/she may appoint a delegate from the SGA to attend the meetings and report on their activities.
Powers
- Shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington’s Student Government Association.
- May create subsidiary commissions to explore various topics. The commission may become funded with a simple majority vote of the Legislature. The Legislature reserves the right to revoke the existence of any commission by a simple majority.
- May create or dissolve Executive Cabinet positions with the approval of 2/3 of the SGA Legislature.
- May veto any legislation which he/she feels is unnecessary, improper, unconstitutional, or not in the best interest of the student body or the University.
- Reserves the right to appoint students to all positions of the Executive Cabinet. These appointments must be approved by a majority vote of the SGA Legislature.
