Annual Event Descriptions
Fall Events
- UNCW Halloween Carnival
SCEC joins other campus organizations in setting
up game and activity booths for underprivileged children who cannot celebrate
Halloween in their neighborhoods because it is unsafe.
- Group Home Holiday Gifts
In the spirit of the holiday season, SCEC members
collect donations of as well as purchase hygiene and gift items to distribute
to residents of several group homes. Five-ten adults with exceptionalities
reside at each home. We spend time with the residents of each home, sharing
a bit of holiday cheer!
Spring Events
- Special Olympics
On your mark, get set, GO! Volunteers from SCEC join
many other volunteers in supporting our New Hanover County Special Olympics
athletes. Each year, athletes of all ages with exceptionalities come
from local schools and group homes to be a part of the track and field
events held at UNCW.
- Spring Dance
Each spring, SCEC organizes a spring dance for members
of local group homes and high school special education classrooms. The
students and residents enjoy a fun day of dancing and refreshment with
SCEC and volunteers from other organizations.
- CEC Annual Convention and Expo
SGA provides funding for the officers
of SCEC to be a part of the CEC Annual Convention. Those who have experienced
the vast amount of information and resources presented at the conference
consider it a valuable resource for a wide range of fields.
