Sample Activities and Events for Chapters

 

Activities and events that promote pride in the study and practice of communication and participation in the other programs offered by the school:

 

ü     Developing a student awards program.

ü     Encouraging student research and conducting communication skill competitions.

ü     Encouraging student representation on faculty governing groups (e.g., representation on Dean’s Council, meetings with faculty prospects, participation in freshman orientations.)

ü     Conducting events and activities that promote student identification with the communication profession and with NCA (such as becoming an NCA Student Member).

ü     Developing undergraduate programs and supporting participation in activities at the NCA Annual Convention.

ü     Attending and presenting papers at the Lambda Pi Eta Honors Conference every spring.

ü     Producing a local Lambda Pi Eta newsletter.

 

Activities and events that promote interaction between students and faculty (either from your school or other schools) related to the mission of the organization:

 

ü     Offering faculty presentations of on-going research projects, either from the host institution or another school.

ü     Having faculty presentations of substantive or methodological issues relating to the study of communication.

ü     Scheduling “meet the faculty” gatherings.

ü     Developing mentoring programs for students with related interests.

ü     Developing events and activities that provide the means for exposing students to issues and information not normally available through the host institution’s existing academic offerings.

ü     Making arrangements for faculty (either host institution’s or invited) presentations of substantive or methodological issues relating to topics not currently covered in the curriculum.

ü     Hosting area, state, or regional conferences designed to bring together faculty and students from different organizations.

 

Activities and events that promote interaction between students and communication practitioners related to the mission of Lambda Pi Eta:

 

ü     Inviting practitioners to make presentations on communication activities (i.e., case studies such as information campaigns, internal communication programs, public relations efforts)

ü     Participating in career activities featuring practitioner presentations related to careers in communication.

ü     Arranging “meet the practitioner” gatherings.

ü     Supporting community based and/or charitable communication efforts (e.g., anti-drug campaigns, get-out-to-vote campaigns, or health campaigns).

 

Activities and events that foster social interaction between students related to the mission of Lambda Pi Eta:

 

ü     Hosting evening meetings at the student union/activities facility on campus.

ü     Conducting fund-raising activities in support of your Lambda Pi Eta chapter.

ü     Planning and executing community service projects (e.g., performances for senior citizens, speaking in elementary schools, etc.)
