- News
- Chip Collier and Adam Branson presented posters of
their work at the annual meeting of Ichthyology and Herpetology meeting in
New Orleans.
- Dr. Scharf, along with Andy Ostrowsky and Will Smith,
gave presentations at the National AFS meeting in Lake Placid.
- Chris Stewart now works for DMF, Wilmington sampling
black bass at local fishing houses.
- Andy Ostrowsky will begin work at the NOAA lab in
Beaufort in October. He will be working on red porgy growth project under
John Burke and Wade Watanabe
- Cassie Martin was recently awarded a graduate research
assistantship under Dr. Scharf. She will be continuing the work of Chris
Stewart and Jason Lanier, investigating factors in juvenile mortality of red
drum in the New River.
- The 2006-2007 AFS officers were introduced.
- A review of the budget shows that the account currently
has $172.00; however records obtained by the secretary/treasurer on September
25, 2006 indicated that the current budget is $169.50
- The next two meetings will be held:
- October 19 – with guest speaker Ted Wiligis (Dr.
Posey’s student, former CFR riverkeeper.)
- November 16 – with guest speaker James Morris (NOAA,
Beaufort.)
- Proposed activities for the fall semester include:
- The 3rd Saturday in October we plan to go
on a fishing trip/cookout/social at Castle Hayne Park on the NE Cape Fear
River.
- Picking up trash at Greenfield Lake sometime in
November for community service.
- Having a candy/baked goods sale outside of the library
during final exams in December. More baked goods are needed because they
present no overhead costs.
- Fishing tournament on campus.

Got ‘Em on Live
disabled fisherman’s tournament. This occurs in the spring and is a good idea
to participate in because it has a good cause.
