Executive
Committee Meeting
July 10, 2006
- Discussed and then signed a petition for making our
chapter of the American Fisheries Society official
- Talked about the funds that we have acquired in a new
club account. This account will have to be investigated as to determine the
way to access it before the fall semester starts
- Spoke on organizing and registering our club in the
Activities and Involvement Carnival coming up in August.
- During every semester of operation there are three areas
that we would like to focus on:
- Fundraisers
- Community Service Projects
- Socials for the club members
- Fundraiser ideas include another candy/bake sale, having
an on-campus fishing tournament in the UNCW ponds, and participating in the
October beer fest. We need to speak to university officials about rules
regarding fishing in their ponds and we also need to find out if we can
legally sell food at beer fest.
- Some ideas that were discussed for community service
were: freshman move-in 2006, the live bait club fishing contest for disabled
veterans/children, a Cape Fear River cleanup, and a lake cleanup (lake off
Randall parkway).
- A social event that involves the club members going on a
fishing trip somewhere along the Cape Fear River and having a cookout was
discussed.
- Speakers at future meetings were mentioned and a few
names were called out, those being: Joe Hightower, Dave Beresof, Louis
Daniel, Betsie Laven, James Morris, Dave Meyer, and the River Keeper. The
Marine Fisheries Commission and the Sierra Club were also discussed as
possibilities.
- It has been decided that the UNCW chapter of the
American Fisheries Society will convene once a month on the third Thursday of
that month, an exception being the first general interest meeting which will
be held on Tuesday, September 5, 2006.
